Nafud Al-'Urayq protected area is located in the central region southeast of Al Qassim City and has an area of 2,036.1 square kilometers. Its habitats are characterized by gravel sandy plains and some granitic, basaltic mountains, and a good vegetation cover that encourages the reintroduction of some birds, particularly the Houbara bustards.
The area was considered an ancient "Hima" pasture for charity camels. It is expected that several factors will contribute to the selection reintroduction site for the of Houbara bustards, such as the presence of good vegetation of Lycium shawii, calligonum, annual plants, and ruggedness of the area.
